Biodiversity: The measure of the variety of different species living in a habitat. A greater number of different species indicates greater biodiversity.
High biodiversity makes sure that ecosystems are stable, as different species depend on each other for things such as shelter and food. The species can help maintain the right physical environment for each other (e.g. acidity of the soil).
Human actions such as deforestation are reducing biodiversity.
