2.88 understand that stimulation of receptors in the sense organs sends electrical impulses along nerves into and out of the central nervous system, resulting in rapid responses

Summary: Receptors send electrical impulses through nerves when stimulated by a stimulus. The electrical impulse goes to the CNS. Here, a response is decided and then sent straight back out in electrical impulses through nerves to effector.

Detailed Process:
  1. Stimuli ia detected by receptors and will stimulate sensory neurones to send electrical impulses to CNS
  2. CNS will pass on impulses to relay neurons across synapse by chemicals
  3. Relay Neurons will pass on impulses to Motor Neurones, carried to effector
  4. Effector will carry out response quickly, allowing rapid responses.
