3.34 understand that mutation is a rare, random change in genetic material that can be inherited

A mutation is a rare, random change in an organism's DNA.

-Mutations can be inherited. They lead to a different phenotype, increasing variation.

- Mutations change the sequence of DNA bases in a gene, which produces a genetic variant (a different form of the gene). Mutations create changes in the protein that it codes for.

-Enzymes are proteins that need an active site to work. Mutation in the coding of enzymes could change the shape of the active site and deactivate enzyme, potentially stopping the production of enzymes altogether.
