3.33 understand that variation within a species can be genetic, environmental, or a combination of both

Genetic Variation:
-Variation in species can be caused by genetic factors via inheritance of alleles from parents for characteristics such as eye colour

Environmental Variation:
-Variation in species can be caused by environmental factors that place pressure on organisms to adapt and change to aid their survival.
-Examples include non-inherited disorders such as PTSD and poor diet that stunts growth

Both factors:
-Variation can be influenced by both genetic and environmental factors.
- While genes determine the characteristics inherited by the offspring, environmental factors influence how those characteristics develop.
- Example: plants may inherit genes for strong growth, however, if they receive insufficient nutrients from their environment, they may be unable to express strong growth.
