1.3 describe the common features shown by prokaryotic organisms such as bacteria

Prokaryotic: organisms lacking a nucleus

Bacteria:
- unicellular
- lack in nuclei so has plasmids (circular chromosome of DNA)
- has cell wall
- some carry out photosynthesis
- eat dead/living organisms
- e.g. lactobacillus bulgaricus, pneumococcus



Virus:
- small particles
- parasitic, can only reproduce in living cells.
- infect every type of organism
e.g. influenza which causes flu, HIV which causes AIDS.
