5.8 understand the use of an industrial fermenter and explain the need to provide suitable conditions in the fermenter, including aseptic precautions, nutrients, optimum temperature and pH, oxygenation and agitation, for the growth of microorganisms

Fermenter: a vessel used to grow microorganisms used for fermentation. Industrial fermenters are large tanks that enable conditions such as temperature, carbon dioxide, oxygen concentration, pH, nutrient supply to be controlled so microorganisms yield their product most efficiently.

Industrial Fermentation: Anaerobic process involving the use of microorganisms such as yeast and bacteria.
