2.86 describe how nervous and hormonal communication control responses and understand the differences between the two systems

Nervous system and hormones both coordinate responses within the body. Nervous system does this via electrical impulses so it is very fast. Hormones do this with chemicals which is slower.

 Nervous Communication
Hormonal Communication
-Stimulation of receptors in sense organs sends electrical impulses
-Endocrine glands produce hormones
-Messages carried by electrical impulses along nerves and neurons
-hormones are carried by plasma to target organs to stimulate change
-Fast impulses
-Slow as it is carried by plasma
-Short lived
-Long lived

Similarities:
-Chemicals involved
-Requires stimuli, receptor, effector

Differences:
-Nervous is faster, Hormonal slower
-Nervous is electrical, Hormonal is chemical
-Nervous is short lived, Hormonal is long lived
